These blends are based on over thirty years of research and clinical trials by Iridologist, Herbalist and Natural Health Practitioner, Pieter van der Westhuyzen.
The formulations have been improved on an ongoing basis as Pieter sought quicker, stronger and more reliable treatment for each type of illness presented by his clients.
There are several reasons why this range is exceptional; firstly and perhaps most importantly, because these herbal remedies ensure the correct digestion, absorption and distribution of their active ingredients, throughout the body. To achieve this, Energetic Herbals make good use of assistant herbs are known as “Conductors”.
Secondly, in formulating remedies, we have followed the principles of Energetic Herbalism – examples of which are Ayurveda, Chinese Herbalism, Unani –Tibb and Traditional Greek Medicine.
This philosophy of healing matches the energies / actions of specific herbs to the energies presented by the person’s symptoms, in the light of his or her constitutional background.
For example, a “warm and moist” disease should be treated with “cold and dry” herbs, in order to restore balance. Applying these principles affects even the choice of herbal Conductors used, which are different for each formula and selected according to their energetic alignment with the remedy.
Consider the following; should the remedy act at the surface, or deeper within?
Should it have a rising or descending influence? On which organs must it act?
Need it be calming or invigorating? Must it warm or cool the body; or any part thereof?
Should it dry or moisten? Every such proviso either narrows down the choice of conductor or alters the combination of conductors used.
Thirdly, throughout this range of remedies the dominant active ingredients, or “Main Herbs”, themselves are based on what actually works and not necessarily influenced by the current health-product trends. The herbs are chosen because they get consistently good results, as confirmed by ongoing observation and feedback.
There’s a fourth reason that makes this range special, which is epitomized by the statement:
“Even the little things add up.” For example the herb Liquorice root depletes the potassium reserves of the body… so when it’s used in a Energetic Herbals formula it is compensated for by the use of potassium-rich Dandelion leaf, or Potassium citrate, where appropriate.
This type of attention to detail is seen throughout our range.
We also make use of a wide variety of traditional African Herbs, such as Sutherlandia (Cancer Bush), Leonotis (Klipdagga), Pentzia (Wonderkroon), Sceletium (Kougoed), Artemisia afra (Wilde Als) and many more. Meet Pieter van der Westhuyzen
Pieter has led a fascinating and fulfilling life. After studying Chemical Engineering at the University of Natal, Durban, he discovered his true calling in Iridology, Herbalism, and Naturopathy. Now, Pieter is dedicated to helping others achieve optimal health through natural and holistic practices.
Pieter's Background
Pieter has a degree in Chemical Engineering and after graduating from the University of Natal in 1987 he spent two years each in the edible oils and aluminium processing industries, followed by a further two years lecturing in food technology and physics at the Natal Institute of Technology. In 1987 he also completed an advanced course in Iridology with Farida Sharan of the British School of Iridology; followed by 6 years of intensive research into Iridology, Naturopathy and Energetic Herbalism – which forms the basis of Ayurveda, Traditional Greek Medicine, TCM and Unani-Tibb.
In 1993 Pieter was confronted with a decision to either commit more fully to his position as a lecturer in chemical engineering, or to immerse himself more deeply in the natural healing methods that he had come to know and love. Feedback from a growing clientele, in the form of accurate diagnoses and significant health improvements, told him that the time was right for change; so he left lecturing and leapt full-time into the natural healing arts.
For many years thereafter he had a very successful natural health practice in Durban and then Kloof, later moving to the Natal Midlands and thereafter to Plettenberg Bay. In 1999 he moved to McGregor in the Western Cape, where he found the balance necessary for being a hands-on, home-schooling parent to his four children; along with his practice as health practitioner and business director of a company that blends and manufactures herbal remedies, namely, “Energetic Herbals”.
In 2001 he simultaneously became an apprentice to a traditional healer, known simply as “Anna”, who was a descendant of the Khoisan of the Kalahari and who had been the midwife of McGregor village for many years. She knew the indigenous herbs of the Western Cape, very well indeed and she taught him how to identify and use them wisely.
Current Situation and Consultations:
Pieter relocated to Hout Bay in June of 2015, where he worked from a consultation room within a health shop known as The Health Path. At the start of April 2019 Pieter moved to Rocklands, the new health centre, set amongst the tall trees and natural beauty of 14A Bel Ombre Drive, Constantia. He also runs a practice from the Forest Lodge, 10 Stirrup Lane Extension, Hout Bay.
When you come to see Pieter for a consultation he will first ask you a set of questions to ascertain your history, lifestyle and symptoms. Thereafter he does a pulse and tongue diagnosis.
Next he takes a careful look at the irises, pupil and sclera of each eye, via an iris-microscope, to ascertain specific constitutional and health issues, taking photos and then transferring these to a computer.
Your enlarged iris pictures provide the ideal way for him to explain what is going on in your body, as also to give insights into your personality and your dominant mental-emotional issues.
Based on this assessment, Pieter offers advice on diet, lifestyle, herbal medicines and supplements and where appropriate, perspectives on how to handle your mental-emotional and spiritual challenges.
Pieter’s most important attributes, as one who helps to facilitate healing by natural means, are the abilities to truly listen and then dedicate the utmost time and care to each client.
Pieter offers talks, courses and workshops in “The Energetics of People, Herbs and Food”, along with “Psychiridology”, the mental-emotional aspect of Iridology.
